Free phenol by gas chromatography
Regulation: ISO 8974. Method to determine the residual phenol present in the phenolic resins through gas chromatography. The resin is dissolved in a suitable solvent and the percentage of free phenol is determined by using phenol-free m-cresol as an internal pattern. The gas chromatograph is equipped with a capillary column and a FID detector.

Dropping point of Stearates and Waxes
Regulation ASTM D 3954. It determines the temperature at which the wax suspended in a cylindrical cup with a 2.8 mm diameter hole in the bottom, flows a distance of 19 mm. to interrupt a light beam. The heating of the wax is done at a constant rate.

Determination of Martens degree of deflection
Regulation UNE 53026. It measures under certain conditions the temperature at which a test tube, to which a certain bending effort is applied, reaches a pre-established arrow.

Determination of water absorption
Regulation ISO 62. It determines the water absorption of a test tube moulded with a moulding compound when it is immersed in water at room temperature and at 100 ºC.

Determination of the flow of a moulding compound
Regulation ISO 7808. The flow of a moulding compound is determined by pressing it with a standard mould under certain controlled pressure and temperature conditions.

Granulometric analysis of additive and filler flours
Determination of the percentage of material retained in a sieve. The material to be determined is placed on a sieve and it is subjected to a vacuum of 2.5 kPa.

Determination of the softening point of the Resins
Regulation ASTM D 3461. It determines the softening point of the resins in a range of 50 to 180ºC.

The resin is placed in a cylindrical cup with a hole of 7.77 mm. in its base. It determines the temperature at which the resin flows a distance of 19 mm. to interrupt a light beam. The heating of the wax is done at a constant rate of 2ºC/min.

Percentage of water by Karl-Fisher methods
Regulation ISO 760. The method is based in the reaction of the water present in the moulding compounds to a iodine and sulfur dioxide solution in methanol.

Determination of the bulk density of the moulding compounds
Regulation UNE-EN-ISO 60 y UNE 53015 (II).
It determines the weight of the moulding compounds which fits into a cylinder of a 100 ml. capacity.

Determination of Charpy impact properties
Regulation UNE-EN-ISO 179. It determines the resistance to impact on a moulded test tube with the moulding compound which is to be controlled by using a pendulum of a default weight and with a specific period.

Determination of post-moulding shrinkage of a moulding compound
Regulation: ISO 2577. It determines the shrinkage of a standardized test tube after being moulded under controlled conditions of pressure and temperature. The determination is done with a micrometer after keeping the test tube moulded for 16 h. at 23 ± 2ºC and 45-55% of humidity.

Determination of specific weight of a moulded product
Regulation ASTM D 792. It determines the specific weight of a test tube by calculating its mass in the air and immersed in water.
